Termite Protection Barriers

Termite Barriers for Long-Term Home Protection

Comprehensive termite control for the Gold Coast and surrounding regions

The first step in protecting a property or home is to prevent termites from gaining access. This is achieved by placing a barrier under or around the property. Barriers are designed to deter termites or bring their presence out into the open.

There are two types of chemical barriers in-soil and in-plastics.

Chemical in soil barriers rely on treated zones being applied under and around the concrete slab or foundations. These chemicals are either repellent or non repellent. Repellent termiticides repel termites from entry and non repellent termiticides kill and prevent entry via these treated zones. Chemical in plastics are installed the same as physical barriers.

Physical barriers rely on the physical resistance of the material to resist termite attack. These are usually installed during new constructions, but some can be retro-fitted to existing houses. Physical barriers are made from crushed rock, metal, or other materials that termites cannot chew through.

Regular termite inspections by a licensed professional is still required to maintain the warranty.

Termite Barrier Frequently Asked Questions

A termite barrier is a treated or physical zone placed under or around your property to stop termites getting in undetected. It either blocks their entry or forces their activity out into the open where it can be spotted early. It is one of the most effective ways to protect a home long term.

A chemical barrier uses a treated zone in the soil or in plastics around the slab and foundations to stop termites. A physical barrier uses materials termites cannot chew through, such as crushed rock or metal. Physical barriers are usually built in during construction, while chemical barriers suit both new and existing homes.

A repellent termiticide keeps termites away from the treated zone, so they look for another way in. A non repellent product cannot be detected by termites, so they pass through it and are killed, which also helps reduce the wider colony. We will recommend the right option for your property.

Yes. Chemical in soil barriers are well suited to existing homes, and some physical barrier systems can be retrofitted too. We assess your slab, foundations and surrounds to work out the best approach for your property.

Cost depends on the size of your home, the length of the perimeter, the construction type and the system used. The fairest way to price it is an inspection of your property, so get in touch and we will give you a clear quote with no surprises.

Yes. A barrier reduces your risk, but regular inspections by a licensed professional are still required to keep your protection working and to maintain the warranty. Annual inspections are recommended across South East Queensland because of our high termite activity.
